Heidfeld becomes official Pirelli test driver

Nick Heidfeld has been released from his contract as Mercedes GP reserve driver in order to become the official tester for Pirelli, who return to Formula One racing next year as the sport’s sole tyre supplier.

Heidfeld, who boasts over a decade of F1 experience, will join the Italian company for a series of tests to assist with development of the compounds to be used by teams in 2011…

Lotus to field young Malaysian driver at aero test

Lotus have announced on Friday that 16 year-old Malaysian driver Nabil Jeffri will carry out an aero test for the team at an undisclosed location in early September. Jeffri, who is a member of the AirAsia ASEAN Driver Development Program, is currently fifth in the Formula BMW Pacific championship.

Disappointment was written all over Sebastian Vettel’s face as he received his third place trophy on the Budapest podium. It should have been his race, but the Red Bull driver could not reap the rewards from his prior dominance of the weekend. He may have been angry at the time, but Vettel is not one to dwell on what might have been, and after a few days relaxing at home he’ll be concentrating on the next round at Spa

Ferrari referred to WMSC over team orders

Following their controversial one-two result at the German Grand Prix, Ferrari have been fined US$100,000 by the FIA after race stewards deemed they had breached sporting regulations and the case has been referred to the World Motor Sport Council.

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, who had been leading the Hockenheim race, moved aside to allow team mate Fernando Alonso past on Lap 49. A few moments before, Massa’s race engineer Rob Smedley had told the Brazilian “Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?”

Yamamoto to replace Chandhok at Hockenheim

HRT race driver Karun Chandhok will be replaced by test driver Sakon Yamamoto at next weekend’s German Grand Prix, the team revealed on Friday. Yamamoto took the place of Bruno Senna for the Spanish squad at the last round at Silverstone and finished the British event in 20th.
